The latest issue of Wichita State's terrific Usability News takes a closer look at breadcrumbs. The research study confirms many of my own suspicions about breadcrumbs: they don't get used much, they don't contribute appreciably to wayfinding, and they impose a false sense of hierarchy on non-hierarchical sites.
