28 Days Later

Approximately as scary as a good episode of "The X-Files". That doesn't make it a bad movie, though -- it hits just the right note of haunting, desolation, and dread throughout. The fabled alternate ending, however, is no more satisfying than the original. Director Danny Boyle seems to have forgotten which story he was telling. He expends all his energy tying up a smaller story, then tries to resolve the larger story in a way that feels tacked on. Nice to hear Godspeed on the soundtrack, though I don't think he gets as much out of it as he could have. The film rushes a few things that should be lingered on, and vice versa, but is pretty strong overall.
