Thanks to some severe weather in Chicago, I found myself in such circumstances as to be able to catch the first two episodes of MTV's new computer-animated Spider-Man series. The look of the show has that sort of post-Flash sheen that seems to pop up in lots of commercials these days. For some reason, all the characters have these enormous, bushy eyebrows (even the women!). I love the way Spider-Man moves -- really acrobatic and super-human -- but Peter Parker moves like a robot. As do all the non-super characters: they all sort of glide around as if they belong in a Kraftwerk video. The stories were okay, but I still miss the plotting of the mid-90s Fox series, which was the most faithful replication of comic-style storytelling I've seen in television or film.
